The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election, Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the tribunal judgement which declared the governorship candidate of PDP in Nasarawa state, David Ombugadu as the duly elected governor.
The tribunal declaration followed the sacking of the state Governor, Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a ruling delivered on Monday, two of the justices agreed that the election was won by the PDP while one judge dissented.
Governor Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) sought re-election for a second term but faced stiff opposition during the election.
Mr. Sule polled a total of 347,209 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Mr. Ombugadu, who secured 283,016 votes.
Taking to his official X handle, Atiku congratulated Ombugadu on the victory.
According to him, elections are the cornerstone of democracy, adding that the people’s will, once determined, should always be upheld.
He wrote, “My warmest congratulations to Mr David Ombugadu of the PDP, who has been affirmed by the election petition tribunal in Lafia, Nasarawa State, as the duly elected Governor of the state. Elections are the cornerstone of democracy, and the people’s will, once determined, should always be upheld.”
