Ahead of today’s judgment to be delivered by the Presidential Election Petition Court, men in military uniform believed to be those of the Nigerian army have partially blocked some roads in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Our correspondent observed that the Bwari/Ushafa/Dutse road where thousands of citizens commute to and fro work in the city was partially blocked.
The situation caused heavy vehicular traffic, leading to delays for workers to work.
At the time of filing this report, the traffic is still up.
It is unclear why the road was blocked, it may be a move to forestall a breakdown of law and order as a result of the presidential election petition judgement.
The three main presidential candidates in the February 25th polls are the incumbent President, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).
Tinubu’s election is being challenged by Obi, Atiku as well as the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Atiku, a former Vice President, came second in the keenly contested poll; while Obi, an ex-governor of Anambra State, came third.
The Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Umar Bangari, on Monday, said the Tribunal will deliver its judgments on the cases before it challenging the victory of Tinubu, the then candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 25, 2023 poll.
The court also said the proceedings will be open to live broadcast by interested television stations.
