The Inspector-General of Police has sued the founder of Platform Capital, Dr Akintoye Akindele, for allegedly bribing the team investigating a petition against him.

49-year-old Akindele was charged before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja, on Friday, August 18, 2023, for allegedly offering One hundred and Fifty Million bribe (N150,000,000) to evade arrest and prosecution.

The Police arrested Akindele after the Inspector General of Police (Force Intelligence Bureau) received a petition by Summit Oil International Limited on the alleged diversion of millions of dollars and naira.

According to the court document,  he had paid fifty million naira (N50,000,000) out of the 150,000,000 to team lead to allow him to escape abroad and write a report in his favor.

Akindele had previously filed a lawsuit against the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Nigeria Police Force, Summit Oil International Limited, Dr Zulikat Wuraola Abiola, Duport Energy Limited and Mr Oluwatosin Odusanya, for unlawfully detained by the Police, exceeding the constitutional limit.
