The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has forgiven the
singer, Mercy Isoyip, better known as Descushiel, after reciting the national anthem wrongly during the Conference for Senior Police Officers in Owerri, Imo State.
Recall that after her video went viral and subsequent knocks that followed, Descushiel, who donned the police uniform during the conference apologised to Nigerians and the Nigeria Police Force.
In a video on her Instagram page on Tuesday, Descushiel applogised for her errors.
The video was captioned, “I sincerely apologise for the error I made during the recital of the National Anthem, I know such errors are inexcusable.
“My good people of our country, please accept my apology, as well as my assurance that I will be more careful in the future to prevent such incidents from recurring.
“God bless the Nigeria Police Force. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Commenting on the public reactions generated by the error of Descushiel, IGP Egbetokun in his remarks at the last day of the ongoing Police conference on Wednesday, said he was initially disturbed by the wrong recitation of the Anthem, but said the error by the lady may have been caused by stage freight.
He added that since the lady has tendered a public apology , she should be forgiven and asked that she should be invited for the police dinner later on Wednesday.
