The acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM has announced the approval for the review of gender policy for the force.
IGP Egbetokun said the approval is a follow-up to an effort aimed at promoting gender inclusivity and enhancing professional development within the Nigerian police force.
He made this known on Thursday at the ongoing IGP Conference at the Force headquarters, Abuja while also reeling out the achievements of the force in the last five weeks.
The IGP said, “As a follow-up to efforts aimed at promoting gender inclusivity and enhancing professional development within the Nigerian police force, our administration has approved the reviewed gender policy for the Nigeria Police Force which was recently launched to cater for the gender sensitivity of our present cline.
“Similarly, our administration has overseen a mentoring programme for young women officers.
“This initiative aligns with our commitment to implementing the national action plan on women, peace, and security in line with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1.3.2.5.
“The programme which began with an interactive session led by the force gender advisor, and other senior female officers, aimed to equip young female officers with the skills and confidence needed for successful careers.”
He said the female officers will continue to receive mentorship and guidance from experienced female officers.
“They will receive continuous mentorship and guidance from experienced female officers on the field fostering personal and professional growth which will, in turn, promote attitudinal and behavioral change in our officers. This is not limited to only the female corps but also, the male officers will benefit from this initiative.
“The Nigeria police force is dedicated to fostering gender diversity and inclusivity at all levels as we adapt to modern challenges contributing to a more effective and resilient policing system in Nigeria.”
