About 17 locals have been reportedly killed by gunmen in the Heipang District of Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The State Youth Leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), John Mark Pam, whose family relatives- His brother, his wife, and their three children- were murdered during the attack, said the gunmen stormed the communities at about 1:00 am on Thursday.
The attackers set some houses on fire, burning residents who were asleep and destroying properties. Several others were also injured as they scampered for safety.
Reacting to the incident, the State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, in a statement on Thursday, appealed to the security agencies to redouble their efforts and put an end to the senseless killings of innocent people.
He further described the deteriorating security situation in some parts of the State as unfortunate and called for greater collaboration between community leaders and security agencies to prevent further attacks.
Meanwhile, he expressed his sympathy to the grieving locals, assuring them of the government’s commitment to addressing the issues.
