The Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi has stressed the need for public relations professionals to upscale their digital media skills to enable them to succeed in their various organizations.
ACP Adejobi stated this in his keynote address at a three-day workshop held at the Nigeria Police School of Public Relations, Force Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
Organised by the NISMA, the workshop has as its theme, “Citizen Engagement and E-Government: Social Media as a Tool for Effective Governance.”
He informed participants at the workshop that for them to be in charge and dominate the media space, they must be digital public relations persons or spokespersons.
He said, “If you to be in charge and dominate the media space, you must be a digital PR person or spokesperson.”
The Force Spokesman also spoke about strategic communication and how important it is for the country.
“We have a lot to do in this country and Strategic communication is very key. Digital media is a problem and it’s a blessing,” he said.
“Strategically we need to project what we do, we need to manage crisis and as most persons from various places, let us help the government of the day. Every geopolitical zone in Nigeria has a peculiar problem and we must study this problem to communicate and see how we can douse this tension.
“I pity for those who clamour for war in Nigeria. If you have seen war you will not even try it. The one that is not even a war, #endsars, that we faced in 2020, if you know how it is, you will know how it is. That is how we should think about communication.
“There is nothing you want to do in an organization or agency without strategic communication.”
