    Five youths who attempted to flee the country, through a vessel -MSC MARTHA have been arrested.

    The stowaways were identified as 44-year-old Effiong Okon,  27-year-old Ayewuni Daniel, 29-year-old Ajagboma Asiko, 23-year-old Adebanjo Ayewumi,  and 25-year-old Christian Joseph.

    They were arrested by officers from the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT at the Lagos anchorage on August 26, 2023, following a tip-off.

    Three mobile phones, personal effects, and a cash sum of N7,900 were found in their possession.

    “The NNS BEECROFT patrol team’s swift and efficient response underscores the Navy’s dedication under the watch of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral EI Ogalla, towards maintaining the security and integrity of the country’s maritime borders,” the Commander NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Kolawole Olumide Oguntuga, said.

    The apprehended stowaways are currently in the custody of the Nigerian Navy while awaiting appropriate legal action.
