The FCT Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading, news making the rounds on social media alleging that there have been several kidnapping incidents in the Maitama and Asokoro districts of Abuja.
The Commissioner of Police in the FCT, CP Haruna G. Garba, who urged residents to disregard the news, noted that the post was intended to create panic and apprehension in the minds of the people.
According to a statement issued by the FCT command Spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh on Thursday, said the command has put in place, working strategies to safeguard life and property before, during, and after the yuletide seasons.
By this, the statement assured the members of the public of their safety and security and called on the residents of the FCT to go about their lawful businesses without any fear of molestation and intimidation.
The statement disclosed that FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has been supportive of the police and other security agencies in the FCT in the collective effort to fight crime and criminality since he assumed duty.
“The CP further appeals that we should work together to defeat crime and criminality in all its forms rather than creating a situation of anxiety and fear where there is none,” the statement added.
“He urges residents of the FCT to be patriotic and cooperate with the police for improved service delivery.
