The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has explained why it allowed a social media influencer, Adedamola Adewale, also known as Ade Herself to speak at the NYSC Orientation lecture in Lagos.
Recall that The EFCC has been under fire for allowing Ade Herself, a purported fraud suspect to educate the youths against cybercrime during the lecture which was held on August 31, 2023.
But in a statement on its X handle on Monday, the anti-graft agency said it has taken note of the public reaction to the speaking engaging by the actress, adding that, “it is duly acknowledged.”
It, however, noted that most of the comments, unfortunately, bordered on a lack of information on the status of the case involving Miss Adewale.
“It is important to state that the fraud charges brought against the Influencer by the Commission had been determined,” the statement reads.
“Indeed, her presence in the Commission is pursuant to the judgement of the court that ordered the Commission to tap her talent as an actress, skit maker, and social media influencer in a program of reformation to dissuade other youths from getting entangled in cybercrimes.
“Her engagement with the Commission is part of her non-custodial sentence.”
