Amid the ongoing political turmoil between Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki, Shaibu has reportedly finalized plans to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). A high-ranking member of the APC shared that Shaibu is expected to be formally received into the party by the APC National Working Committee (NWC) early next week. This decision follows Shaibu’s move to the Federal High Court to seek an injunction against an alleged impeachment plot against him.
The move to the APC by Shaibu has ignited discussions within the political landscape, with Governor Obaseki suggesting that Shaibu’s court order to stop his supposed impeachment is preemptive ahead of his defection.
Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole also commented on the matter, asserting that the APC is a political party and not a rehabilitation center for disgruntled politicians seeking shelter. Oshiomhole emphasized that loyalty to leaders is crucial.
In a separate development, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has established a 70-member campaign council headed by Senator Odion Ugbesia ahead of the September 2 council elections. The council’s main objective is to secure victory for all chairmanship and councillorship candidates of the PDP during the upcoming elections.
