Leaders from the West African bloc ECOWAS will meet on Thursday in Abuja for an emergency summit on the coup in Niger.
The ECOWAS Leaders will be discussing the political situation and recent developments in Niger after the junta has defied the ultimatum to restore the democratically elected president, Mohamed Bazoum.
Meanwhile, the military leaders named a new government according to a decree read out on national television on Thursday.
On Wednesday, a Nigerian delegation led by the former Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi, met the junta’s leader, Gen. Abdourahmane Tchiani.
