A monarch in Rivers State, His Royal Majesty Eze Ikegbidi, the King of Akoh Kingdom has been arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The arrest of the monarch by the secret police comes in the wake of the gruesome murder of the Ahoada Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Bako Angbashim, by suspected cultists.
The tragic incident occurred on a Friday night when gunmen, believed to be cultists, ambushed and beheaded DPO Angbashim during a police operation in the area.
However, the arrest of King Ikegbidi by DSS operatives follows an indefinite suspension imposed on him by Rivers State Governor, Siminilayi Fubara.
Governor Fubara had, in a statement, accused the monarch of relinquishing control of his territory to the notorious criminal, David Gift, also known as 2-Baba, and his gang, allowing them to operate freely.
He further announced a reward of N100,000,000 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the prime suspect, David Gift.
Subsequently, the monarch was transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department in Port Harcourt, the state capital, for further questioning.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Grace Iringe-Koko, was reached for comment but stated that she did not possess detailed information on the arrest, promising to provide further details later and mentioned that the monarch will be charged to court.
