Grammy-winning artist Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has expressed his contemplation of hiring 100 lawyers to take legal action against Nigerian bloggers for defamation. This comes after he had earlier considered offering money to bloggers to refrain from posting about him.
In a post on his X handle on Wednesday, Burna Boy, writing in Pidgin, mentioned that he had initially thought of sponsoring legal battles against Nigerian bloggers with the funds he intended to give them to stop posting about him. However, he acknowledged the financial challenges many bloggers face, stating that he is considerate of their efforts to make ends meet.
Burna Boy questioned the persistent efforts of Nigerian bloggers to push him to the wall, expressing his frustration with their actions. Despite contemplating legal action, he also conveyed empathy for the challenges faced by individuals in the blogging industry.
The artist’s statement reflects a balance between his desire for privacy and his understanding of the economic circumstances of those involved in the blogging profession. The post adds another layer to the complex relationship between celebrities and the media in the age of social media.
