History was made on Thursday, when the Nigerian Army High Command announced the dismissal of the Commander, 23 Armoured Brigade, Yola, Brig-General. Mohammed Gambo over the midnight attack on the Adamawa State Police Command with a truckload of soldiers.
The unprecedented dismissal is historic against the backdrop of many infractions orchestrated by military personnel against the Nigeria Police Force.
The invasion of the command in the wee hours of the night led to the death of a police officer, Inspector Jacob Daniel, and others.
Recall that the former commander had led heavily armed soldiers to invade the police headquarters.
The army has since announced Gambo’s replacement. He is Brig-Gen. Paul Zawaya, from Michika Local Council of Adamawa.
The new commander visited the Government House, Yola yesterday to see the state Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri.
The governor called on Zawaya to double his efforts toward reducing the crime rate in the state.
The governor tasked the new commander to synergise with other security agencies towards fighting kidnapping among other forms of criminality in Adamawa State.
He pledged his administration’s continued support to security outfits towards making the state crime-free, for the betterment of all and sundry.
The new commander assured the governor that he would do everything possible to maintain security across the state.
