
35 Osun Students Hospitalised After Inhaling Tear Gas
About 35 students of Fakunle Comprehensive High School have been hospitalized after inhaling teargas detonated during a morning drill at a MOPOL Base on Tuesday.
The school is located directly opposite the 39 Squadron of the Police Mobile Force, PMF, along the Osogbo-Ikirun road, Osogbo Township Stadium area.
Classes were in session and the students were said to have inhaled the teargas and passed out.
According to the Head of Operations, Osun Ambulance Scheme, Elizabeth Arowosafe, 11 students were moved to UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, and the others were taken to a private hospital close to the school.
The Permanent Secretary of Osun State Ministry of Education, Adelani Aderinola, in a statement issued through the Ministry’s Spokesperson, confirmed that the Policemen were shooting teargas which affected the students in the school, adding that the matter was escalated to the Commissioner of Police, who stopped the exercise.
Also, Osun Police Command Spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, noted that there would be necessary operation adjustments in the base due to its proximity to other people’s businesses.
