Why Seun Kuti Was Handcuffed – Force PRO
The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has stated that handcuffing a suspect before detention is standard procedure.
The FPRO stated this while responding to Twitter user, Son of David, who questioned the Police for handcuffing afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, despite turning himself in at the Command Headquarters on Monday.
“Was the handcuff necessary, and why collect his shoes? NPF sha.”
Responding, the FPRO said: “It seems you are not familiar with detention with this question. Anyway, it’s a normal procedure before detention.”
Seun Kuti is being interrogated by the Police for assaulting a Police Officer on duty at Third Mainland Bridge on Saturday.
In a statement on Monday, Kuti’s lawyer, Mr. Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN, also claimed that the decision of the Police to handcuff him is illegal and constitutes a violation of Section 5 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law.
He also alleged that the Police subjected his client to a media parade by sharing his photograph in the media, which violates section 9 of the Lagos State Administration of Criminal Justice Law.
