Woman Arrested For Torturing Eight-Year-Old House Help With Pestle

A 25-year-old mother, Mrs Chinyere Ifesinachi, has been arrested for allegedly torturing her eight-year-old househelp in Nkpor Local Government Area of the State.

The suspect used a cane and pestle to beat the child, simply identified as Idimmachikwu, to pulp.

A viral video showing the little girl’s swollen eyes together with injuries sustained all over her body as a result of the beating has been circulating on social media.

According to the State Police Spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was arrested on Friday in collaboration with the Staff of the Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare.

“The arrest is following a trending video/public outcry of the residents of the area who saw Miss Idimmachikwu with different degrees of injuries all over her body allegedly perpetuated by her guardian Mrs Ifesinach. The child is currently receiving treatment in a hospital,” he said.

The suspect,  who is related to the mother of the little girl,  stated that she beat the little girl because she threw her child on the ground.

The case has been transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department SCID, for comprehensive investigation and prosecution.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng, has frowned at such inhuman treatment subjected to housemaids/ help by their guardians, assuring that the Command will continue to do everything within his power to protect the vulnerable.
