Four Teenagers Charged With Murder Of Chicago Police Officer
Four teenagers have been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly killing a 24-year-old Police Officer in Chicago, United States.
The teenagers are 19-year-old Trevell Breeland, 19-year-old Joseph Brooks, 18-year-old Jakwon Buchanan, and a 16-year-old juvenile, who will be charged as an adult.
Announcing the charge in a press conference on Wednesday, Chicago Police Superintendent Eric Carter said the teenagers “were out looking for victims” and are connected to multiple robberies and a motor vehicle theft early Saturday leading up to the murder of 24-year-old Officer Aréanah Preston.
Additional charges include armed robbery, arson, burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, and unlawful use of a weapon.
Officer Preston was in uniform and returning home from duty at about 1:00 am on Saturday when the teenagers in a stolen vehicle pulled up and ran toward her while armed.
One of them shot at Officer Preston, who fired back, but they continued to shoot until she was hit, stole her weapon, and fled the scene in the stolen vehicle.
An officer responding to a “traffic crash” in the area found Preston and took her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Superintendent Carter said Preston was a “beloved, daughter, sister, and friend who wanted to make a difference in this world” and “create a better future for Chicago but the actions of four offenders took that future from her.”
