Police Rescue 22 Kidnapped Victims In Abuja
No less than 22 kidnapped victims have been rescued by Operatives of the Anti-kidnapping Unit of FCT Police Command.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna Garba, who made this known while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters on Friday, stated that the feat was premised on the rigorous policing approach put in place as he assumed office on May 2, 2023.
In a clearance and rescue operation in Kogi and Nasarawa States as well as FCT borders on Wednesday, 14 persons- including a village Chief were rescued. Armed bandits invaded Chida village in Kwali Area Council on April 7, 2023, where they abducted the victims.
Ten victims with mild symptoms of illness were taken to General Hospital, Abaji, for treatment and reunited with their families.
In the same vein, eight persons kidnapped from Lapai and Tunga Mallam village in Niger State on April 13, 2023, were also rescued unhurt and handed over to the Ardo Galadima of Lapai Local Government Area, Niger State, for urgent medical attention.
They are Buba Galadima, Sarki Galadima, Audu Galadima, Musa Buba, Mohammed Isa, Hassan Audu, Aminu Ahmadu, and Abubakar Mallam.
The CP has assured FCT residents that the onslaught against armed bandits would be sustained. However, he appealed to the public to assist the Police either by providing credible information that will defeat crime or by direct participation in activities to mitigate crime and criminality.
“It is only by working together as a team that the security challenges in the FCT can be conquered,” he intoned.
On his policing mandate, the CP maintained that the protection of fundamental human rights, community partnership, visibility, and intelligence-led policing would be vigorously pursued.
