Court Remands Hunter For Alleged Murder

A Magistrates’ Court in Akure, on Friday, ordered that a 28-year-old hunter, Michael Sunday, be remanded in Police custody for alleged murder.

The Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Mary Adebayo, told the Court that the offence was committed on April 18 at Utaja, Idanre, Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The offense, she said, is punishable under Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Therefore, she prayed the Court to remand the suspect in the Correctional Centre pending investigation.

The Defence Counsel, Mr. Adelanke Akinrata, opposed the application, stating that the prosecution had no convincing evidence and information to connect the defendant to the alleged murder.

He asked the Court to grant the defendant bail, saying that the defendant was still innocent until proven otherwise.

Magistrate F. A. Aduroja remanded the suspect and adjourned the case until May 3, 2023, for a ruling on the bail application.
