Dismissed Police Officer Charged With Murder Over Death Of Delta Man

A Police Officer attached to Delta Police Command, Inspector Ubi Ebri, has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and is facing a murder charge for shooting a man dead in Delta State.

The former Officer, while on stop and search duty along Ugbolu-Illah road on April 5,2023, shot and killed a man, identified as Onyeka Ibe, over an alleged N100 bribe.

He was arraigned before Asaba Magistrate Court  on a one count charge, on Wednesday.

The charge read: “ That you Ubi Ebri ’m’ on the 5th day of April, 2023, along Asaba/ Ugbolu Road in the Asaba Magisterial District did unlawfully kill one Ibeh Onyeka ‘m’ by shooting him with a gun and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 319 (1) of Criminal Code Law Cap. C 21 Vol 1 Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.”

The defendant was denied bail and was remanded at the Ogwashi Uku Correctional Center while the case file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and prosecution.

The case has been adjourned till May 8, 2023.
