Police Bust Child Stealing Syndicate, Rescue Two Children In Enugu
Police Operatives attached to SWAT of Enugu State Command have busted a child stealing and trafficking syndicate, rescuing two children, aged 4 and 1, in the process.
The Police also arrested two suspects, identified as 24-year-old Miracle Orji and 34-year-old Blessing Ani, for their involvement in the crime.
According to the Police, on March 23, 2023, one of the suspects, Miracle Orji, stole the four-year-old child named Ogechi Edeh and was on the run before she was eventually intercepted and arrested with the assistance of the residents of Ameke-Oduma Community in Aninri Local Government Area.
Her confessional statement led to the arrest of Blessing Ani around Shoprite Mall Enugu, where she was waiting to receive and further transport the child.
The State Police Spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement on Tuesday, noted that Blessing Ani confessed to have been involved in the act of child trafficking since 2017 and guided the Operatives to Abuja, where the one-year-old male victim, Destiny Okechukwu, who had been sold with fake documents and renamed Chibuike, was rescued.
He added that the suspects will be arraigned in Court once investigation into the case is concluded.
