Court Remands Popular  Bishop In Prison Over Rape

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, on Monday, remanded a popular Bishop, Oluwafeyiropo Daniel for allegedly raping two of his church members. 

Bishop Feyi Daniels, who is the founder of I Reign Christian Ministry,  was arraigned before Justice Ramon A. Oshodi on a two-count charge of rape.

According to the prosecution, led by Babajide Boye, the defendant committed the offences sometime in June 2020 in Ikota Villa Estate, Lekki, Lagos, which contravened Sections 260 (2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015

The defence counsel, Mr Olukunle Oyewole, moving a bail application dated April 10 urged the Court to grant bail to the defendant on liberal terms.He argued that the defendant had been on Police administrative bail since May 20, 2022 and made himself available.

However, the Prosecution counsel, in his counter affidavit dated April 14, prayed the Court to refuse the bail application.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Therefore, the judge granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20 million with two sureties in like sum. The defendant is also to deposit his international passport with the Chief Registrar of the Court.

He also ordered an accelerated hearing and remanded him at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre until he fulfills bail conditions.

Justice Oshodi adjourned the case until May 9 for trial.
