Police Arrest 19 Shi’ites For Unlawful Procession In Abuja
FCT Police Command has arrested 19 members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shi’ite, for unlawful procession, obstruction, and riotous assembly.
Over 400 members of the proscribed group staged a protest from Federal High Court to Eagle Square on Thursday following the Court’s ruling on the release of the International Passport of their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-zakzaky.
They blocked the roads, inconveniencing members of the public, especially commuters, as they demanded the immediate release of their leader’s International Passport.
Upon receiving distress calls, Police operatives were deployed to the scene to support Officers already on the ground monitoring the procession.
According to the Command Spokesperson, DSP Josephine Adeh, on sighting the reinforcement team, members of the IMN started throwing stones, Molotov cocktails, and other dangerous objects at the Officers until they were dispersed while 19 suspects were arrested.
The Command has assured residents of its commitment to ensuring security, safety, and peace within the capital.
