Rivers State Police Command has debunked reports alleging that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of 9th Mile Division shot an Inspector attached to his Division.
According to the Command, there is no Division known as “9th Mile Police Station” in the State, nor was the shooting incident reported. The Command further maintained that there had been no shooting incidents in the Command Formation- including Divisions and Tactical teams since January 2023.
The report had claimed that the DPO, identified as Obidike Chukwudi, shot the Inspector during an argument on Monday after he allegedly detained the Policeman for leaving his duty post.
However, the State Police Spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, noted that there is no record to show that the named DPO is serving in Rivers State.
“The Command states categorically that the publication is a figment of the imagination of some mischievous persons who want to create fear in the minds of the public and create rancor and disaffection within the Police.
“The Commissioner Of Police, CP Okon O Effiong, psc(+), fdc, affirms that as a responsible law enforcement agency, the Rivers State Police Command is committed to exercising the highest level of professionalism in the discharge of their onerous responsibilities.
“He urges all law-abiding citizens in the State to go about their lawful businesses without fear, as the Police are well able to protect them. Going forward, the CP urges media platforms and journalists to ensure the verification of stories before publication and avail themselves of the following hotlines to report any incident or development they believe has the potential to lead to crime or a breakdown of law and order: 08032003514, 08098880134,” she said.
