Anambra State Police Command says it successfully rescued and prevented armed men from attacking officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission and ad-hoc staff on an assignment at Ukpor High School, Nnewi South Local Government Area of the State.
The armed men disrupted the training program of Ad-hoc staff that had INEC staff, corps members, University undergraduates and some MDA officials in attendance at about 5:35 pm on Thursday.
The State Police Spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the move by the joint security team followed the potent and dynamic policing strategy put in place by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng, to respond to any emergency and security concerns in ensuring a hitch-free 2023 general elections.
He added that patrols had been intensified in the area and a manhunt was ongoing to track down the attackers.
