A 22-year-old man, Ayomide Fawehinmi, who was accused of stealing a teenager at Empire area of Surulere, Lagos State, has been rescued from a mob action by the Police.

The suspect had lured a 15-year-old boy from his mother’s shop and was taking him to an unknown destination before he was accosted by a neighbor who raised the alarm and a mob descended on him.

Police operatives attached to Surulere Division received a distress call from members of the community about the mob action and rescued the suspect unhurt.

The suspect had already dispossessed the boy of an Itel android phone to cut off communication with his mother. An investigation is ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspect’s culpability, according to the State Police Spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.

The suspect would be arraigned contingent on the outcome of the investigation, he added.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, while commending residents of the State for always alerting the authorities on suspicious persons/happenings, warns members of the public to desist from jungle justice.
