Eight suspected terrorists linked to the recent attack on Agwa Police Station on Friday, August 8, 2022, where four gallant Police Officers lost their lives, have been arrested.
Their arrests followed an investigation to unravel the perpetrators of the dastardly act, where the Command’s tactical team raided some identified criminal hideouts between Agwa and Izombe communities in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State on August 6, 2022.
The Police named the suspects 18-year-old Obioma Chibuike, 22-year-old Achazie Chidiebere, 19-year-old Onyedikachi Nwadike, 51-year-old Anayo Onyemere, 26-year-old Ifeanyi Mboyi, 29-year-old Chukwudi Onyeausi, 17-year-old Obodo Promise and 22-year-old Ifeobu Ebubechi.
According to the State Police Spokesperson, CSP Michael Abattam, the hoodlums engaged the team in a gun duel to escape arrest but were overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the operatives.
“On the spot inquiry revealed that all the arrested suspects were natives of Agwa and Izombe communities, respectively. Their weapons were recovered when their hideouts were searched. They include one pump action gun, two locally made guns, six cutlasses, one Biafran flag, eight live cartridges, eight expended cartridges, and one masquerade apparel.
“On their way out of the hoodlums’ hideouts, one of the overzealous suspects, Ifeanyi Mboyi, attempted escaping from lawful custody of the operatives and was swiftly demobilized by the ever gallant Police operatives. The suspect sustained bullet injury on his left leg and was taken to Federal Medical Center Owerri, Imo State, where he is undergoing treatment and is in a stable condition,” he said.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, while stressing that policing is the collective responsibility of everyone, appealed to residents to join hands with the Police and other security agencies in the fight against crimes and criminalities.
