Edo State Police Command says it has arrested seven Police Officers over official corruption and extortion while discharging their duties, particularly along Benin/Ore expressway.
The Officers were identified as PC Victor Osabuohign, ASP God’spower Ijebu, Inspector Ebatamole Philip, Inspector Ademola Benjamin, Inspector Inaite Vincent, Inspector Robert Esikise, and Inspector Adefaye Samuel.
The Command’s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, made this known while reacting to a trending video that showed PC Osabuohign engaging in an extortion conversation with a road user identified as Arc. Bolu.
“The attention of the Edo State Police Command has been drawn to a video on Twitter where a Policeman, PC Victor Osabuohign, was seen engaging in an extortion conversation with a road user identified as Arc Bolu.
“PC Osabuohign, the officer in the viral video, has been arrested, detained, and is currently undergoing investigation. The other Officers arrested before now on the grounds of official corruption are undergoing investigations while awaiting disciplinary actions.”
She added, “The Command wishes to state that the Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, has set up an Ad hoc committee headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, James Chu and the Command’s Provost Marshall, Avanrenren Godwin, as the Deputy Chairman of the committee, to look at all cases of official corruption of men of the Command, investigate and met out relevant disciplinary actions on such erring Officers.”
