The Police in Niger State have arrested two suspects for allegedly kidnapping and killing a 13-year-old boy, Yasir Salisu, in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State.

The Police named the suspects 22-year-old Usman Sabiu and 18-year-old Nafiu Umar.

The victim, declared missing on July 29, 2022, was the neighbour of one of the suspects, Nafiu Umar. The suspects were arrested on July 30, 3033.

According to the Police, the suspects kidnapped the victim to collect N100,000 as ransom from the victim’s father, but when he could not produce his father’s contact and recognized that one of his abductors was his neighbour, they killed him.

“During a rigorous and painstaking interrogation, Usman Sabiu confessed to conspiring with Nafiu Umar and abducting the missing person with the intention of collecting One Hundred Thousand Naira ransom (N100,000) from the victim’s father.

Unfortunately, he claimed that the victim could not produce the father’s contact number to demand ransom and both suspects were identified by the victim, who are neigbours; hence, the victim was strangled and killed by the suspects,” Niger State Police Spokesperson, DSP WASIU ABIODUN, said in a statement.

The suspects then led Police Operatives attached to Tafa Division to a riverbank in Hayin-Nasarawa where the deceased was buried in a shallow grave. The corpse was exhumed and deposited at Umar Yar’adua Hospital Morgue for autopsy.

The PPRO added that the case is under investigation and the suspects will be arraigned in Court for prosecution as soon as the investigation is concluded.
