The Westminster Magistrate Court in London, United Kingdom, has ruled that David Ukpo, who was allegedly flown from Nigeria to the Uk by Ike Ekweremadu and his wife to donate a kidney for his daughter, is not a minor. The Court has established that Ukpo is not 15-year-old as alleged but a 21-year-old.

London Met Police had accused the defendants of conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

Ike Ekeweremadu and his wife, Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, were charged with conspiracy offences following an investigation launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.

At the Court sitting on Thursday, the Court ruled that Ukpo was an adult and the defendants also pleaded not guilty.

The Court has adjourned the case till August 4 for a hearing.
