An 18-year-old gunman, on Tuesday, killed at least 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, before he was shot dead by law enforcement officials.
Robb Elementary teaches second, third, and fourth grade students, who range from seven to ten years old.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott said the shooter, who authorities identified as Salvador Ramos, ” shot and killed horrifically, incomprehensibly.”
According to CNN, the gunman wrecked a vehicle while driving near the school after shooting his grandmother.
In reaction to the horrific incident, President Joe Biden said, “These kinds of mass shootings rarely happen elsewhere in the world. As a nation, we must ask: When in God’s name will we stand up to the gun lobby? When in God’s name will we do what needs to be done?
“In the past ten years, there have been over 900 incidents of gunfires reported on school grounds. I spent my career as a Senator and as Vice President working to pass commonsense gun laws. When we passed the assault weapons ban, mass shootings went down. When the law expired, mass shootings tripled.
“The idea that an 18-year-old kid can walk into a gun store and buy two assault weapons is just wrong.”
The Presidents prayed for the repose of the souls of the innocent lives lost and commiserated with the grieving families.
