Some irate youths, on Friday, set six houses and seven shops ablaze, while scores of people were injured over alleged blasphemy in Warji Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

According to the Police, a staff of the Medical Department, Warji Local Government, 40-year-old Rhoda Jatau, allegedly posted a blasphemous message on social media, which led to the crisis.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the State Police Spokesperson, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, noted that all Tactical Teams, Mobile Police Force, and Rapid Response Squad (RRS) had been deployed to bring the situation under control, while the State Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Mamman Sanda, has ordered a thorough investigation into the crisis.

“The area is calm for now, while visibility Patrols are ongoing to keep the peace. While assuring the general public that the Police are on top of the situation and will continue to update the public as to the level of investigation from time to time, the Command reiterates the need for parents and guardians to maintain strict vigilance over the activities of their wards, particularly youths,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the CP has urged Religious Leaders, Community Leaders, and Elders to always advise the youths to desist from anything that could temper security in their area.
