A streak of operations targeted at dislodging bandits and miscreants from their hideouts in the suburbs of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has led to the arrest of three suspected bandits and the recovery of weapons.

The FCT Command Anti-kidnapping Unit, in a concerted effort with the local hunters, Destiny hunters, and Vigilantes, on May 12, 2022, stormed a kidnappers/ bandits camp in Zago Forest, Niger State, bordering FCT via Adagba Village, Abuja.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sunday Babaji, who paraded the suspects at the Command’s Headquarters on Monday, said the team also rescued 23-year-old Usman Isah of Lapai village, Niger State, who had been in captivity for 20 days.

“Upon sighting the gallant approach of the combined team, the miscreants engaged the team in a gun duel but were overpowered.
Two suspected bandits, 18-year-old Rabiu Umar (a.k.a Mallam) and 20-year-old Abdulmuni Haruna (a.k.a Alibaba) were arrested, while many escaped the camp with bullet wounds.

“The Team dislodged the camp and recovered three AK 47 Riffles with breeches No. 5662, 088425-89. and NK 6172 with seven magazines containing 18 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, and One GPMG with 101 MG rounds,” he said.

According to the CP, the team had earlier carried out an operation on May 8, 2022, in Magaji Forest bordering Abuja/Niger State, arresting 27-year-old Ibrahim Usman (a.k.a Babuba) in the process.

Also, the team stormed a bandit camp at Mayaki forest via Adagba Village, Yaba district Abaji Area Council of the FCT, on Friday, overpowering the bandits and recovering an AK49 Riffle with breach no 165151, eight magazines, 12 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, and one locally made pistol.

CP Babaji has assured that an effort is ongoing to apprehend fleeing suspects and upon the conclusion of the investigation, suspects will be charged to Court.
