Edo State Police Command has arrested a criminal gang that specializes in vandalizing vaults and graveyards and harvesting body parts of corpses for commercial/ ritual purposes.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the State Police Spokesperson, SP Bello Kontongs, the operatives arrested the leader of the gang, 40-year-old Josephine Adun, the gang herbalist 42-year-old Oyegoke Olushola, 29-year-old Charity Goodluck, and one Ologbo, who bought a skull for Forty Thousand Naira (N40,000.00), on Friday, May 6, 2022.
Operatives of the Command also killed six suspected kidnappers hibernating in Uzea Forest Uromi, Esan Central Local Government Area of the State.
According to the PPRO, on May 11, 2022, operatives of the Command, in collaboration with local vigilantes, went on bush combing to track down, possibly arrest and recover arms from kidnap syndicates who are in Uzea Forest Uromi in Esan Central Local Government Area of the State.
In the operation, two suspected kidnappers were killed at the crime scene, while four others, identified as 29-year-old Mohammed Amedu, 30-year-old Shaibu Lawal, 31-year-old Nasiru Mohammed, and 18-year-old Mohammed Ibrahim, died while receiving treatment at a hospital.
“The kidnap syndicate sighting the team of Operatives engaged them in a heavy gun duel, but the superior firepower of the team led to the death of two members of the syndicate while four others that were initially arrested in Ugboha and Ubiaja and were leading the operatives to the syndicate hideout sustained serious gunshot injuries during the encounter.
“The injured suspects were taken to hospital where they died while receiving treatment,” he said.
The Police recovered one AK-47 rifle, one pump action gun, one double barrel, five live ammunition, and one AK-47 magazine.
