A Kano State High Court sitting has sentenced 19-year-old Ibrahim Khalil to death by hanging for killing his five-year-old nephew, Ahmad Ado.
Justice Usman Naabba Khalil’s ruling came after he held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and found the teenager guilty on two counts of kidnapping and culpable homicide.
Therefore, he sentenced the convict to 14 years imprisonment for kidnapping and death by hanging for homicide.
The prosecution counsel, Mr. Lamido Sorondinki, had told the Court that Khalil committed the offences sometime in 2019 at Karkasara Quarters in Kano metropolis.
According to the prosecution counsel, he abducted his sister’s son, Ado, used cellotape to cover his nostrils and mouth, and buried him in a shallow grave at Sabuwar Sheka.
The prosecution presented three witnesses to the Court and four exhibits, stating that the offences contravened sections 274 and 221 (a) of the Penal Code.
However, the convict had denied committing the offences.
