President Muhammadu Buhari condemned the attacks by bandits on about four communities in Bakura Local Government Area and Faru in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State over the weekend, which led to the death of over 50 people.
According to the President, we must not return to the time when bandits had a free hand to wreak havoc.
“While there appears to be relatively calm in the State, with situations returning to normal in most parts and the rural communities ready to live their lives normally again, there had been several breaches, especially given the bandits’ attack on Damri, Sabongarin Damri and Kalahe villages in Bakura Local Government Area, and lately, Maradun, where several casualties were recorded,” he said.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, President Buhari maintained that the momentum that has been developed must be sustained to bring closure to banditry.
He also expressed condolences to the families of the victims, the Government and the people of the State, adding that the combined efforts of the Federal and State Governments must do all that is necessary to bring an immediate end to the horrific killings.
However, the President commended the military for the incessant onslaught and for not showing any let up as they continue to achieve positive outcomes based on their current operational trajectory in Zamfara, as well as other states in the North West.
