A middle-aged Lebenanse man, John Greg, who allegedly knocked down a pedestrian while driving against traffic on Sanusi Fafunwa Road, Lagos State, has been arrested.

The victim, Omotomi Akinsanya, sustained critical injury and is currently receiving treatment at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

“The driver drove into Omotola and pushed her against the wall. The impact was so much that the plate number fell off. The driver did a hit and run; he absconded instead of waiting to care. A passer-by then took a bike and chased after him,” an eyewitness alleged in a series of tweets.

Reacting to the incident through his official Twitter handle, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ben Hundeyin, said the vehicle had been impounded at the Station and the victim’s family was contacted.

“Suspect is in our custody, and the vehicle impounded. Victim undergoing treatment at LASUTH. The victim’s family and Embassy of Lebanon have been duly informed,” he said.

He added that an investigation is ongoing.
