A Tactical team of Imo State Police Command has apprehended a suspected manufacturer of majority of the Improvised Explosive Devices ( I.E.Ds) used by members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) in attacking Police Stations and innocents citizens in and outside the State.
The suspect, 50-year-old Simeon Onigbo, was arrested during a raid carried out on Wednesday at a hideout of the terror group located at Uba Umuaka in Njaba Local Government Area of the State.
The State Police Spokesperson, CSP Micheal Abattam, made this development known on Friday.
“On the spot interrogation, the suspect admitted being the manufacturer of most of the Improvised Explosive Devices ( I.E.Ds) used in attacking police Stations in and outside the State.
“The Command’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD) has taken over the recovered bomb for technical analysis and subsequently for possible detonation millimeters. The investigation is ongoing and the suspect has made useful statements and mentioned members of his gangs outside the State who patronise him,” he said.
On searching the crime scene, the team recovered one manufactured Improvised Explosive Devices, 58 pieces of cannon steel pipe, two chisels, one hammer, one and a half bags of potassium nitrate, 30 pounds weight of sulphur, 40 pounds weight of dry sand, red sand, 30 pounds weight of gun powder, half bag of charcoal, 30 electronic motorcycle batteries and seven lengths of forty meters iron rods.
The Command has assured that its Operatives are not relenting, and all efforts are on top gear to arrest the other suspects.
