Niger State Government has stated that no civilians have been killed in the ongoing air and ground operations conducted by the Military and other security agencies in Shiroro Local Government Area.
A report making the rounds on media platforms had claimed that some civilians were killed at Kurebe in Shiroro Local Government Area as a result of the ongoing Air and ground operations.
To the best of the knowledge of the State Government, there have been no civilians residing in these areas for some time now due to the infiltrations and activities of the terrorists which forced the locals to seek shelter as IDPs in other parts of the State, the State Commissioner for Local Government/Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security, Emmanuel Umar, stated.
According to him, the ongoing intensified Military operations aimed at neutralising bandits and terrorists in neighbouring States and Shiroro, Munya, and other LGAs have yielded a lot of successes as many bandits/terrorists have been eliminated in the affected LGAs.
Efforts by the State Government in conjunction with security agencies have repelled bandits attacks in Shiroro and Munya LGA and rescued many abductees accordingly. The State is looking forward to a sustained operation to eradicate bandits.
