The Southeastern part of the country, particularly Anambra and Imo States, has been faced with attacks by gunmen suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), with security personnel and facilities being the targets.
There have also been attacks on Police Stations, cruel murder of Police Officers dedicated to protecting the citizenry, and the destruction of critical national infrastructures.
To tackle the criminal elements responsible for the unrest in the southeast and restore normalcy to the security architecture of the States, the IGP has ordered the immediate deployment of additional operational assets to complement Officers and men attached to Operation Restore Peace in the South East, and other launched operations, to flush out criminal elements who hide under the guise of aggrieved citizens to perpetrate criminal acts.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Thursday, asserted that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, fdc, has warned that attacks on Police Officers would no longer be tolerated under whatever guise, as the Force holds the lives of its personnel sacrosanct, and such unwarranted attacks would be strictly treated under extant laws.
Meanwhile, the IGP reiterated the commitment of the Force to protecting lives and property, adding that it is also vital to respect the lives and fundamental rights of Police officers and other security operatives.
