The Police in Ogun State have arrested a suspect, Sikiru Famuyiwa, who allegedly abducted two children during a service at a Celestial Church of Christ in Ijeja, Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Friday.

According to the Police, the suspect and his accomplice, who is now at large, snuck into the children’s department while the good Friday service was ongoing and abducted two children, aged two and three.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who made this known, said that the suspect was arrested following a distress call received by Policemen at Ibara Divisional Headquarters.

“While on their way out with the stolen children, a vigilant member of the church sighted them and raised the alarm, consequent upon which the congregants pursued them and apprehended one of them.

The Divisional Police Officer, Ibara, CSP Nasirudeen Oyedele, quickly mobilised his men and moved to the scene where the suspect was rescued from an angry mob who were about to lynch him,” he said.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation. He also directed that the accomplice must be apprehended and brought to justice.
