A 17-year-old boy, Isa Hassan, has been arrested for allegedly plucking out the right eye of a 12-year-old Almajiri boy as an ingredient needed for preparing a disappearing charm.
On March 22, 2022, the suspect lured the 12-year-old victim, Mustapha Yunusa, by promising to give him food. However, when they got to a roadside in Sheka Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State, he plucked the young boy’s right eye with a knife and left him bleeding.
When the Police received the report of the incident, they mobilized to the scene and rushed the victim to Murtala Mohammed Specialist hospital, where medical doctors confirmed that his eyeball was forcefully removed with an object.
According to the State Police Spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna, with the help of the local vigilantes in the area, the suspect was arrested on March 29, 2022.
“On investigation, the suspect confessed that he met his friend, Sani Abdulrahman, and asked him where he could get a charm that would make him be disappearing whenever he wanted. Sani directed him to his aged grandmother, 100 years old (as she claimed) Furera Abubakar.
“The principal suspect further confessed that he met Furera, and she instructed him to bring an eyeball of a human being to her so that she could prepare the charm for him. He went and deceived one street beggar (Almajiri), the victim, lured him to a nearby bush, tied his hands and forcefully used a sharp knife, and plucked his right eyeball. Furera was also arrested,” the PPRO said.
The suspect told the Police that he took the eyeball to Furera, and she told him to bring Five Hundred Naira. He did not have the money, so Furera told him to keep the eyeball and bring it when he gets the money.
He stated that he kept the eyeball for three days, but when he discovered that the eyeball had decayed, he threw it away.
Meanwhile, SP Haruna added that the case had been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation, after which the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.
