No less than 19 security personnel were killed as bandits attacked the convoy of the Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Retd Col Sama’ila Yombe Dabai.

The bandits ambushed his entourage in Kanya, Waje District of Danko/Wasaga Local Government Area of the State on Tuesday.

According to his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on New Media, Atom Turba, a security aide attached to the Deputy Governor, ASP Idris Umar Libata, and 18 other military personnel lost their lives.

“Yombe, in the company of Commanding officer 223 light Tank Battalion Zuru, were returning from various military formations with the intent to boost their morale as well as needs assessment when they were ambushed by the bandits in Kanya, a community under Waje District of Danko-Wasagu Local Government,” he stated.

The Deputy Governor, who has been regularly in Zuru Emirate recently to be part of military operations to tackle banditry in the area, lamented the spate of informants disguising in public and revealing the movement of troops and vigilante groups.

The Deputy Governor also commended the bravery of the 223 Battalion military men and vigilante groups for their rapid response whenever the need arises.

Meanwhile, he prayed for the repose of his deceased security aide and other personnel who lost their lives, adding that they shall be remembered for bravery forever.
