Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old woman, Ozioma Orakwe, for allegedly killing her cousin, 75-year-old Martin Orakwe, and feigning the incident as suicide to cover up her tracks.
There had been speculations that the deceased committed suicide in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area on Wednesday for no reason. However, an investigation by the Police revealed that it was only a setup.
In a statement issued on Friday by the State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had a cut on his head with marks of violence all over his body.
“Additional information shows that before the death of the victim, he had a disagreement with the suspect which resulted in a fight. The deceased reportedly died in the fight, and to cover her track, Orakwe set him up to look like a case of suicide,” DSP Ikenga stated.
In reaction to the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng, admonished citizens to seek other means of settling their differences rather than resorting to fighting or other forms of violence.
