The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc has admonished Officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to improve on their relationship and partner with the public in crime prevention.

IGP Baba, who paid a working visit to FCT Police Command on Tuesday, noted that policing is a national and social service, so everyone must cooperate.

According to him, the Officers should not use raids, stop and search, or roadblocks as a means to intimidate or extort the public. The Inspector-General of Police advised them to check their excesses when conducting such crime-preventing measures.

He noted that armed robbery and kidnapping are the crime trends in FCT, but the Police are working to ensure the sustainability of peace.

“Every day, we must work to prevent and punish perpetrators of crime and criminality as a deterrent to others,” he intoned.

He commenced the Officers and men of the Command on the good work they are doing in ensuring that residents of FCT can sleep with their two eyes closed, however, he encouraged them to build on the achievements and not go to sleep until crime and criminality are brought to the barest minimum.

Meanwhile, the Command Commissioner of Police, CP Sunday Babaji, noted that in compliance with the vision of the IGP, the Command had adopted operation policies and strategies to tackle crime and criminality.

The CP also noted that the Command needed ten APCs, 15 Toyota Hilux, 40 Motorcycles for some remote terrains, bulletproof vests, and 1,500 walkie tackles for its operations.
