A 50-year-old domestic worker, Sossougueto Theodore, has been arrested for allegedly robbing his employer, Yasushi Murata, a Japanese expatriate, and stealing over two million naira for his account.

The suspect and his accomplice, 35-year-old Oluwasegun Olusoji, were apprehended by detectives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Lagos State, following a petition by the victim.

According to the Police, the suspects broke into the victim’s house, tortured and forced him to make a transfer of one million naira, and disclose his ATM Pin. They also threatened to kill the victim if he failed to leave the country or disclose the robbery incident to anyone.

“On 1st February 2022 at about 11:00 pm, the duo broke into the victim’s residence and forced him to transfer the sum of one million naira into the Zenith Bank account of Oluwasegun Olusoji. After torturing and violently assaulting the victim, the masked robbers, armed with a gun and an axe, made away with his ATM card after coercing him to disclose his PIN.

“ A few days after the robbery, the suspects used the stolen ATM to withdraw the sum of one million, seven hundred and twenty-nine thousand, eight hundred and fifty naira, making a total of two million, seven hundred and twenty-nine thousand, eight hundred and fifty naira (N2, 729, 850.00) stolen from the victim’s bank account without authorization.

“Unperturbed by the threat but pained by the injuries sustained, the victim reported the robbery through a petition to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti. Upon the receipt of the petition, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Adegoke Fayoade, immediately assigned seasoned detectives to investigate the incident and a painstaking investigation led to the arrest of the perpetrators,” the State Police Spokesperson, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, stated.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, has directed that the case should be charged to court.

Meanwhile, the CP admonishes employers to always carry out a thorough background check on their domestic staff before employing them and be wary of criminal neighbours.
