Eleven persons have lost their lives following an attack by bandits at Kurmin Masara community in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Sunday.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said that 30 houses were burnt while other injured residents were evacuated for treatment.
The victims killed were named Elizabeth Ayuba, Veronica Auta, Bege Daniel, Kephas Waje, Promise Jacob, Damaris Istifanus, Hauwa Joshua, Dogara Gambo, Lidia Ishaya, Michael Achi, and Gabriel Michael.
According to the Commissioner, troops of the Nigerian Air Force Special Forces who responded to distress calls from the area also fell into an ambush as they were mobilised to the scene of the attack. However, they cleared the ambush and reached the general area, along with troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH).
While search-and-rescue operations and pursuit of the attackers are in progress, the Government has assured to make further details public as soon as they are received from security forces.
Meanwhile, the State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, expressed sadness over the report, prayed for the repose of all those killed, and conveyed his condolences to their families. He further wished the injured a speedy recovery.
