Katsina State Police Command rescued seven victims of human trafficking, en route to Libya through Niger Republic border, in Maiadua Local Government Area of the State on Thursday, January 20, 2022.

The rescue operation followed a raid on a criminal hideout at Yankara village, Koza District in Mai’adua LGA of Katsina State, where the victims were camped.

The State Police Spokesperson, SP Gambo Isah, who made this known in a statement, said the rescued victims consisted of four females and three males, were stashed in a house in the area.

He identified the female victims as Success Oshoopkeme 20, of Asoko LGA, Edo State, Isaac Deborah 20, of Ugunagbo LGA, Abia State, James Rebecca 20, of Minna LGA of Niger State, and Zainab Tijjani 21, of Ibadan LGA of Oyo State.

The male victims were Amoruwa Ade 28, of Irede LGA of Ondo State, Emmanuel Godwin 22, of Eka North LGA of Delta State, and Taofik Olawale 27, of Ibadan LGA of Oyo State.

According to him, the victims told the Police that they were brought to the village by their agent who fled on sighting Police Operatives.

He added the victims would be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) office in Kano for further investigation and arrest of the traffickers.
